Built on Real Mistakes and Hard-Won Insights

We started smartlogicflow after spending years watching businesses in the Mekong Delta region struggle with financial planning. Not because they lacked ambition, but because they were using spreadsheets that broke every time market conditions shifted.

Our founder, Caspian Thornwell, spent most of 2019 rebuilding the same financial model seven times for a seafood export company. That experience shaped everything we do now. We teach people how to build models that actually hold up when reality gets messy.

How We Got Here

2020

Started teaching weekend workshops in Kiên Giang. Just three people showed up to the first one. We covered cash flow forecasting for small agricultural businesses, using examples from local shrimp farms.

2022

Developed our first structured curriculum after realizing most participants were making the same fundamental errors. We focused on scenario planning because that's what actually helps when export prices swing 40% in three months.

2024

Moved entirely online and started working with businesses across southern Vietnam. Our approach shifted from teaching formulas to teaching flexible thinking. Models should adapt to your business, not trap it in rigid assumptions.

2025

Now serving over 200 professionals annually. Our next cohort begins September 2025, focusing on building financial models for businesses navigating currency fluctuations and seasonal revenue patterns common in this region.

What Drives Our Teaching

Honest About Complexity

Financial modeling isn't simple. We don't pretend it is. But we break down complicated concepts into steps that make sense, using examples from businesses operating in conditions similar to yours.

Built for Real Scenarios

Every example we teach comes from actual business situations. We've seen what works when rice prices spike, when shipping costs double, or when your main buyer suddenly changes payment terms.

Practical Over Theoretical

You'll build working models during the program, not just learn concepts. By the end, you'll have tools you can actually use on Monday morning, adapted to your specific business context.

Who's Teaching This

Caspian Thornwell teaching financial modeling

Caspian Thornwell

Lead Instructor

Caspian spent twelve years working with manufacturing and export businesses before starting smartlogicflow. Most of that time was spent fixing broken financial projections and explaining why the previous consultant's model didn't account for monsoon season.

He's not the type to follow textbook approaches. His teaching focuses on building models that survive contact with messy reality. If your revenue doesn't follow a straight line, his methods will make more sense than traditional forecasting.

  • Scenario analysis for volatile commodity markets
  • Cash flow modeling for seasonal businesses
  • Building flexible forecast frameworks
  • Working with multi-currency financial planning

Real Problems, Working Solutions

Our programs run for six months because that's how long it takes to build genuine skill. You'll work through progressively complex scenarios, starting with basic cash flow tracking and moving toward full three-statement models.

We limit each cohort to fifteen participants. Small groups mean you get feedback on your actual work, not generic advice. And when you hit a wall building your model, you'll get specific guidance on where your logic went wrong.
